In 2018, Oxford University Ph.D. student Daniel Celis Garza participated in an 11-week collaboratory, funded by Oxford. The collaboratory is designed to broaden a student’s expertise beyond their research area, which, in his case, was Material Science. He learned about the advanced C-interoperability features of Fortran 2018 and contributed a first draft of the ISO_Fortran_binding.h header file to gfortran, broadening his knowledge of modern Fortran.
